A woman who began her career as an Hip Hop promoter; has moved her purpose to world healing. She is best known for her work on the famous Jay-Z album Reasonable Doubt, but that would only be the beginning of her purpose given from the Almighty GOD. In 1995, Maria's life changed significantly when she was diagnosed with HIV when applying for life insurance. What a blow most would think! Three years later it was concrete, Maria had AIDS. For most people this is the moment to stop everything and focus on self preservation and healing. For Maria it meant purpose! Shortly after Maria became the face, activist & national spokes person for World AIDS day.
Not caring what other thought, Maria would live a full and prosperous life with dedication as her everyday tune. While we interviewed, Maria stressed the important message of GETTING TESTED, never taking life for granted and ONE PERSON CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. She explained how GOD has a season and reason for all of us. Living life is about giving and saving lives. She proclaimed the faultiness of peoples education of AIDS/HIV relies on those of us who have the platform to send the message. She says, What's bad is that people don't even know the true difference between the two"
In preparing myself for such an ELITE interview, I found many articles and writings about Maria. One article and quote seems to stick out of them all. It was written by Ebony Magazine- Health and Wellness Edition
"In this day and age, our children need love. How do you tell a child to wear a condom without giving him the tools to stop and think and say, “Is [sex with this person] the right choice to make? Will this affect me down the line somewhere?” See, if we love our children and we teach them the right way, they are going to make better choices. But we can’t condemn them as if we didn’t make the same mistakes they do. Come on now! Don’t tell me you don’t have a skeleton in your closet nowhere. If you’re perfect 100 percent of the time, then let me know—because you’re the only one on this earth. No one is sexually perfect. We have all made mistakes and have all been victims somewhere in our lives.
The way I see it, the first work we have to do is on ourselves. That’s what we need to be teaching our young people, in our churches and outside of them."

The message is harmonious with what Maria does and is. Everything begins with teaching. Not tearing people down to make a statement. But allow life to be taught to make the right decision.
Today and for the past 5 years Maria has incorporated her message of HIV/AIDS awareness with hosting a very special event at the Shrine, located in Harlem NY 2271 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd 10030 entitled MAD WEDNESDAYS, where she is surrounded around great artist in hopes to empower their career. Maria isn't in a powerful position. However, she lets the POWER (GOD) position her!
