MMR on Health- China faces a smoking epidemic

A participant smokes a cigarette before competing in the 2015 Beijing Marathon on 20 September

A new study has warned that a third of all men currently under the age of 20 in China will eventually die prematurely if they do not give up smoking.
The research, published in The Lancet medical journal, says two-thirds of men in China now start to smoke before 20.
Around half of those men will die from the habit, it concludes.
The scientists conducted two nationwide studies, 15 years apart, covering hundreds of thousands of people.
In 2010, around one million people in China died from tobacco usage. But researchers say that if current trends continue, that will double to two million people - mostly men - dying every year by 2030, making it a "growing epidemic of premature death".
While more than half of Chinese men smoke, only 2.4% of Chinese women do.

MMR on Entertainment News- Selena Gomez battles Lupus

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez says she is receiving chemotherapy after being diagnosed with the autoimmune disease lupus.
Concerns about the 23-year-old's health were first raised in 2013, when she cancelled a tour of Asia and Australia.
She later sought treatment at the Dawn at the Meadows rehab facility, with her representatives denying she was dealing with substance abuse.
But the singer has revealed her break was "really about" her lupus diagnosis, adding: "I could have had a stroke."
Speaking to Billboard magazine, the pop star was scathing about the gossip websites who suggested she was addicted to drugs.
"I wanted so badly to say: 'You guys have no idea. I'm in chemotherapy. You're assholes'."
"I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again."
Gomez went on to criticise the tabloid press, who have spent years picking apart her relationship with ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, as "vile".
"I've been working since I was seven. I've been a Unicef ambassador since I was 17. It's so disappointing that I've become a tabloid story," she said.
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease where the body's immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal tissue.

MMR on Politics- EXCLUSIVE: U.S. officials conclude Iran deal violates federal law

Some senior U.S. officials involved in the implementation of the Iran nuclear deal have privately concluded that a key sanctions relief provision – a concession to Iran that will open the doors to tens of billions of dollars in U.S.-backed commerce with the Islamic regime – conflicts with existing federal statutes and cannot be implemented without violating those laws, Fox News has learned.
At issue is a passage tucked away in ancillary paperwork attached to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA, as the Iran nuclear deal is formally known. Specifically, Section 5.1.2 of Annex II provides that in exchange for Iranian compliance with the terms of the deal, the U.S. “shall…license non-U.S. entities that are owned or controlled by a U.S. person to engage in activities with Iran that are consistent with this JCPOA.”
In short, this means that foreign subsidiaries of U.S. parent companies will, under certain conditions, be allowed to do business with Iran. The problem is that the Iran Threat Reduction and Syria Human Rights Act (ITRA), signed into law by President Obama in August 2012, was explicit in closing the so-called “foreign sub” loophole.
Indeed, ITRA also stipulated, in Section 218, that when it comes to doing business with Iran, foreign subsidiaries of U.S. parent firms shall in all cases be treated exactly the same as U.S. firms: namely, what is prohibited for U.S. parent firms has to be prohibited for foreign subsidiaries, and what is allowed for foreign subsidiaries has to be allowed for U.S. parent firms.
What’s more, ITRA contains language, in Section 605, requiring that the terms spelled out in Section 218 shall remain in effect until the president of the United States certifies two things to Congress: first, that Iran has been removed from the State Department’s list of nations that sponsor terrorism, and second, that Iran has ceased the pursuit, acquisition, and development of weapons of mass destruction.
Additional executive orders and statutes signed by President Obama, such as the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act, have reaffirmed that all prior federal statutes relating to sanctions on Iran shall remain in full effect.

MMR on news in your area- 1 Dead 3 Wounded at an Arizona University

One person was killed and three others were wounded in an early-morning shooting at Northern Arizona University before the shooter was taken into custody, police said early Friday.
Eric Dieterle, a spokesman for the Flagstaff university, told Fox News the shooting occurred in a parking lot near Mountain View Hall, a student residence located on the eastern edge of campus near the school's football stadium.
Dieterle said the shooting happened at approximately 1:20 a.m. local time. Mountain View Hall residents were told to stay indoors, but the campus was not placed on lockdown. It was not immediately clear whether the shooter or victims were students.

MMR on Entertainment News: 50 Cent says im no Homophobe I just hate Empire

A rep for 50 Cent released a statement to the Huffington Post regarding the incident:
"Mr. Jackson reposted something on Instagram that originated from a blog in relation to the decrease in 'Empire''s ratings.  When he realized there was additional content in the blog post that he did not agree with, he immediately deleted the post as that is not a reflection of his views at all."
PREVIOUSLY: Viewership for the second episode of this season of "Empire" was down 2.3 million people -- 18 percent -- and 50 Cent thinks he knows why.
The rapper took to Instagram to blame it on all the "gay stuff." Ugh.
More precisely, 50 Cent posted a screengrab of a post from Industry on Blast's Instagram account that was captioned, "There are 3 million less [sic] viewers who tuned into last night’s Empire episode!!!! did you watch it? We could not take the extra gay stuff or celebrity stuff last night!!!!"
For the few non-"Empire"-watchers out there: One of the lead characters on the show, Jamal Lyons, played by Jussie Smollett, is an openly gay musician who was tapped to be the CEO of Empire Entertainment at the end of Season 1. The Season 2 premiere also featured a plotline about an effort to use female sex appeal to convince a lesbian investor, played by Marisa Tomei, to invest in a new music company.
Despite the drop, the ratings for the second episode of "Empire" in the coveted 18-49 demo were still good enough to handily beat every other scripted show on TV last week.
Viewership for the Fox show is also about four times higher than that of the top-rated episode of "Power," the drama that 50 Cent produces for Starz. It wouldn't be a stretch to connect 50 Cent's insensitive social media commentary on "Empire" to the rivalry between the two shows, both of which feature mostly black casts.

MMR on News around the world- 11 year old boy shoots an 8yr old girl with a shotgun!

An 11-year-old boy is charged with murder after he fatally shot his 8-year-old neighbor, police said, and neighbors say it was because the girl wouldn't let him see her dog.

Deputies were called to White Pine on Saturday night where they found MaKayla Dyer on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
Jefferson County Sheriff Bud McCoig said the boy, who has been charged as a juvenile, used his father's 12-gauge single-shot shotgun to shoot and kill the girl from inside his house.
Police have not disclosed a motive, but neighbors said the boy shot the MaKayla, who was outside, from his bedroom.
MaKayla was playing across the street with neighbors — outside the boy's home — when she and the boy had a conversation through an open window, said Chasity Arwood, a neighbor.
"He asked the little girl to see her puppies. She said no and laughed and then turned around, looked at her friend and said, 'Let's go get the --' and never got 'puppies' out." The boy had shot MaKayla with a shotgun, Arwood said.
"Seeing a baby laying there and not being able to help — it is really heartbreaking. I mean, it is. It's heartbreaking," she said.
Latasha Dyer told WATE-TV her daughter was playing outside when the next-door neighbor asked to see the puppy. McKayla told the boy "no," and he shot her, Dyer said.
"She was a precious little girl. She was a mommy's girl. No matter how bad of a mood you were in she could always make you smile," Dyer told the station. "I want her back in my arms."
A neighbor, Misty Edwards, said her niece was playing with the girl and saw what happened.
“It breaks my heart because it’s my niece and daughter's best friend," said Edwards.
