NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -
Police have released a sketch of the man who attacked two women with a hammer in the Union Square area.
The first assault happened inside Union Square Park at Union Square West and 17th Street at about 7:30 p.m. on Monday, police said.
A 28-year-old woman was sitting on a bench when the assailant pulled a hammer out of a bag and struck her in the head.
About 10 minutes later, the man hit another woman in the back of the head near 45 West 17th Street, the NYPD said.
Both women were taken to Lenox Hill Hospital and released. Police said their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The assailant ran off. The NYPD has not made an arrest.
